We are proud to announce the winners of this year’s prize:

Japanese artist, Izumi Kato and Fundación Casa Wabi are pleased to announce the first open-call 6 weeks residency prize for two young Japanese artists (ages 20 to 40) interested in cultural cross-pollination and wishing to enter a dialogue with the communities around Casa Wabi in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico.

We are pleased to announce the artist for 2025 annual exhibition at Casa Wabi, Puerto Escondido.

As a new feature this year, directors participating in this edition of the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum or Ikusmira Berriak will be eligible for the Casa Wabi-Escine Award, granted by Fundación Casa Wabi and Escine. The award consists of a five-week residency in one of the bungalows at Casa Wabi in Puerto Escondido (Mexico) for a director of a project selected in the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum or Ikusmira Berriak. This award joins the Best Project Award, the DALE! Award, and the ArteKino International Award.

Upon entering the second-floor gallery of Casa Wabi Sabino, located in the Atlampa neighborhood, visitors find themselves in a different country: the Mexico that architect Alberto Kalach (Mexico City, 1960) has imagined for decades—a country that simultaneously exists and does not exist.

Fundación Casa Wabi, a non profit foundation, is committed to nurturing a vibrant dialogue among national and international artists, designers across various disciplines and the local communities of Oaxaca’s coast. Casa Wabi’s artistic residencies in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, are deeply integrated with social and cultural initiatives, reflecting the center’s commitment to a socially engaged and culturally rich artistic practice which benefits the communities surrounding the house.

Fundación Casa Wabi celebrates ten years of work on the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. During this time, a community development model through art has been successfully established, creating a profound impact on the region. This exhibition commemorates the convergence of community, art, and nature, shaped through five fundamental programs: residencies and community projects, exhibitions, clay workshops, film, and a mobile library.

In commemoration of our tenth anniversary, Fundación Casa Wabi is pleased to present the work of José Dávila “El pasado nunca es el mismo”

“Renacer de la tierra” presents the work of artists Karian Amaya (Chihuahua, 1986) and Liz Capote (Cuba, 1996) who, brought together for the first time in the exhibition, delve into concepts inherent to ecofeminism – questioning predominant paradigms that promote the exploitation of the environment and gender-based abuse – and foster a vision rooted in respect for all forms of life, intersectionality, and sustainability.

Fundación Casa Wabi and Fundación Ama Amoedo welcome the four selected artists to participate in residencies in Mexico and Uruguay: Jorge Miño (AR), Mimi Laquidara (AR), Fritzia Irizar (MX), and Alejandra Venegas (MX).
