Pan Del Tiempo – Mujeres de San Martín Caballero
The “Time Bread” workshop was in the town of San Martín Caballero because there are the incredible cooks of Casa Wabi: Itzel, Emi, Susana, Yesenia and Aracely. They spread the word and invited other women to join the meetings.
Even here, where the delicious corn tortillas are the basis of food, the bread has its history, and there was no need to ask much to hear the ladies talk about the “pot dough” and how they used to make unleavened bread No one was hurting the belly anymore.
I remain with the certainty that to make bread is to make memory; it is to wake up what we already know: to listen to us and to listen to the life of the bacteria in the masses and our way of humans on earth.
The workshop at Doña Juana’s house was a party of hands in the masses between stories and laughs. It was amazing to see the proud women with their loaves fresh out of the clay oven. Their bread was beautiful, and they already named many ideas for future breads!
It was very exciting days after the workshop to receive from Doña Juana their yolk bread, for the first time, made only with “pot dough,” beautiful and delicious.
Already in my last week at Casa Wabi
we received the message that the ladies wanted to make another meeting to make pizzas… and how to say no! Soon we made a farewell feast, with pizzas of mother dough baked in mud, and we said goodbye walking in front of the sea with hugs from seeing you soon.
