Memory is like a rope that binds us to the eternal present (says Pierre Nora), but this present is always full of past. The present is a territory of discursive and concrete exchanges and struggles; Each present is also defined by the forms of past that it allows in itself. Therefore, each present is unique and historical. This way of understanding memory in the present can be more productive than simply thinking of it as information stored in a mental trunk.
The participants of this workshop reflected on the idea that we do not write the past to understand what we are, but write the past into what we are. From the present.
