Community Project

The Our Stories, Our History project had the central objective of using basic cinematography tools as a means to express personal and communal identities, both in the present and projected into the future. Starting with discussions about what cinema is and how a film is made, the sessions evolved in a way that each participant became an actor, screenwriter, director, and producer of the different stories that emerged. By utilizing elements from real life as well as fictional narratives, the techniques of filmmaking were employed as a pathway for self-discovery and community understanding.

The result is a series of short films that illustrate the memories, research, and expectations of a group of young individuals from the Colegio de Bachilleres located in Río Grande.

Romania

“I am Monica. I am from Romania. I am a filmmaker now, but I used to be a translator, psychologist, housewife, screenwriter, curator and other such things. My work in cinema has come from personal stories, but as time goes by, more and more things become personal to me. I am currently documenting my own transition from traditional cinema forms to more interdisciplinary methods of working that combine fiction, documentary, research, introspection, literature and other storytelling means. I believe in practicing a process-based cinema. “

With a background in psychology, Monica has been working as a screenwriter for many years. Her debut as a director “Imaculat” has been awarded in Venice International Film Festival 2021 with the Lion of the Future Award for best debut film, the “Giornate degli Autori Director’s Award” and the best screenplay award for authors under the age of 40.
