Michael Mieskes is an artist and lecturer based in Germany working in sculpture, painting and digital modelling. He received a Master of Arts in Aesthetics from the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts Munich.
He works between theory and praxis questioning the role of digital technology for artistic creation: What is a body in a digitized culture? What effects does virtual space bring to our physical world? And what is an authorship when human and technical activities merge? In addition to his individual artistic practice, he explores these questions through interdisciplinary and collective collaborations.
He was awarded by Deutscher Künstlerbund e.V. and participated in artist-residencies at Nirox Foundation (SA) and Bauhaus Stiftung Dessau (GER). He is holding seminars at Zurich University of Applied Sciences (CH) in the Department of Architecture. He participated in publishing several artist books for exhibitions and wrote research articles in the field of media theory and aesthetics – including a contribution to the anthology ‘Digital – Analog. Architektur im Spannungsfeld der Digitalisierung‘ published by ZHAW (Triest Verlag).
