Marco Miehling is a German artist based in Europe (somewhere between London, Berlin and Munich) working across sculpture, performance and 3D modelling.
He uses a synergic mode of working to question how human and non-human actors respond to digital and physical surroundings within the urgency of environmental awareness. Seeking to reframe and extend the notion of what the (un)natural environment in our today’s world is, Miehling’s practice recognises that all beings and things are enmeshed in ecological processes. This way of working considers the artwork’s site as both a place with self-contained attributes and as a cultural mediation of broader social, economic and political processes.
Both his sculptural practice and his modes of living have been concerned with an idea of ‘belonging-in-transience’, driven by the desire to embrace the fluidity of nomadic movement. His practice recognises that artists are no longer necessarily bound to the static space of the studio, therefore he suggests a radical alternative to static production that privileges a specific context. This enables him to create dialogues with others at every stage of his artistic production, engaging with an ever-widening network of interconnecting contexts.
