Enciclopedia de la costa – Habitantes de la costa
COAST ENCYCLOPEDIA is the compilation and organization of knowledge of the people of the Coast of Oaxaca.
Through meetings and conversations with artists Laura Gorski and Renata Cruz, people were invited to write and draw on topics they considered relevant in their experience where they live.
The meetings during the month of July 2019 resulted in six volumes of local knowledge: recipes, medicinal plants, animals, trees, stories and legends and a specific volume on Las Negras Community.
The books, with 50 pages in 18.5 x 12 cm format, are of the same measures used by the German publishing house Insel Verlag in its collection of books on universal themes in arts, history, philosophy, literature and other areas of the humanities in What artists have been working on in recent years.
Although this project was closed at the end of the residence, the idea of an encyclopedia of local knowledge continues to be developed in the work of the artists, who set out to create an open encyclopedia and with as many voices as possible. A collective construction, not hierarchical and decentralized.
