Community Project

Máscaras Zoomorfas – Telesecundaria de El Venado
Koba worked with the children of the Venado telesecundaria. The idea of the project was to create masks with zoomorphic characters to create awareness of the biodiversity of their community and create empathy between children and living beings with whom they cohabit.
The first session served to present the project, talk about the different cultural uses of masks and animals that exist in the coastal ecosystem. Each child chose an animal of their choice and made three drawings, a face in front and in profile, to the animal of their choice and the final design of the mask (human face with the animal as a decorative aspect). The next session was dedicated to the making of masks using paper mache. During the last sessions the masks were painted.
The designs of the masks, their shape, size and pictorial decoration was entirely the children’s decision, trying to exploit their creativity.

Lives and works in Brussels

Koba De Meutter (°1992) lives and works in Brussels. Her installations question functionality. She combines architectural elements, found material and sculptures in directed actions and accidental happenings, often in public space. The status of an object as sculpture or tool becomes ambiguous and puts the visitor in a shifting postion of viewer, passer-by or user. Connections are both a link as a blockade and melts the light with the heavy; the public with the private; the intimate with the anonymous.
Works by Koba De Meutter were recently shown in Ležerna razmjena bez panike, Charlama, Sarajevo / Le Nouvel Observateur, Hof ter Saksen, Beveren / The living room XL, AIR, Antwerp / auction museum dhondt dhaenens, Deurle. In september and october 2017 Koba was in the residency program [R.A.T.] residencias artisticas por intercambio, Mexico City.
