– Casa Wabi 2023

Community Project

My idea is to build, together with the women working in the kitchen of Casa Wabi, along with their children, a textile mural. We use a palm weave purchased from the market, the cross-stitch embroidery technique from Rosi’s mom, and the sewing foundations on fabric that I brought from Chile. The idea was to weave this piece together, where we could share techniques and ideas about weaving, but at the same time, share customs, stories, and rituals that each person has around a story. This textile is a platform and stage where we can share our ideas, customs, and dreams.

My work has concentrated on the use of a meta pictorial resource.

Instead of painting, I sew, and I explore the qualities of the thread, trying to recreate gestures ranging from the saturation of the material to the synthesis of the line, and from the expressiveness of the stain up to the definition of an image, which tends to be more and more evocative and less defined.
The preparation of my work combines the participation of three components; the thread, a piece of cloth, and the time spent sewing it. That time becomes visible in the superposition of frames, which when going overcoming themselves they generate a dense body, which is dominated and journey through color, fourth element, immaterial, which constitutes my work, and to which I resort with the desire to create suggestive images, that appeal to the transitory and the slight.
