Starting from the research and connection of historical events, mixing them with a touch of humor, science fiction, irony and violence the work of Cristóbal Gracia challenges the construction of a present and reality built and ruled by ideological and power structures imposed over time.
Gracia obtained his BFA with honors from the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado “La Esmeralda” (2006 2010), later he attended to SOMA (Full study program 2011 – 2013). His work has been exhibited in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, United States, England and Italy. He is co – director of Bikini Wax an independent platform of production, discussion and exhibition of contemporary art in Mexico City. He has been awarded with grants such as; Arte Actual MACG-BBVA 4th edition and the Young creators gran form FONCA. He has been an artist in residence in; ViaFarini, Milan, Italy, Art Plant – Biennial of the Americas, Denver, Colorado, U.S, Grand Union, Birmingham, England and Casa Wabi in Oaxaca, Mexico. Among his exhibitions we can mention; Horror en el trópico, Museo del Chopo, Mexico City, Vis á Vis, Biennial of the Americas, Denver, Colorado, Los Justos desconocidos, Hilario Galguera Gallery, Mexico City, Cristóbal Gracia at Venice 6114, L.A, California, De la Formación a lo Público, Carrillo Gil Museum, Mexico City, Presagios de Muerte, Arredondo / Arozarena, Mexico City and Fragments, David B. Smith Gallery, Denver Colorado, U.S.A. He is a current member of de APT global (Artist Pension Trust). His work has been published in several media such as Código, Caín, Metropolis, Artreview, ArtSlant, Marvin, Excélsior, FRENTE, Westword, Denver Post among many others.
