Community Project

Construcción de una escultura – Comunidad de Agua Zarca, Escuela Primaria “Miguel Hidalgo”
“My project will be developed with the children of the community and we will concentrate on knowing different construction methods. With an approximate group of 10-15 students of the State Rural Primary School “Niño Artillero” we will visit the company of manufacturers of terracotta bricks and tiles.

Each child will make their own brick with unique dimensions and their own characteristics, I will guide them in the process of how to create their brick depending on their own abilities – I will also make mine. Each brick will be baked and glazed to preserve so they could be used for the next stage of the project.

When the bricks are cooked, they will be taken to Casa Wabi and we will build a sculpture in the garden together with the children. It is important that the sculpture is armed by using the bricks that where made in different dimensions. This task will require teamwork, the children and I will work together making sketches, tests, and making decisions on how to embed the different bricks for a better result.

My goal is that when making the sculpture, the participating children can think laterally and collaboratively, that is to solve problems imaginatively, indirectly and creatively. Knowing also about the material, design, physics, gravity and the construction process, as well as more abstract concepts such as identity and unity. ”
