Community Project

Taller costeño de fotografía, audio y video – Primaria Papalotes / Primaria El Venado
Adrian worked with two communities, girls from Emiliano Zapata Elementary School in El Venado and with children from Papalotes School in Puerto Escondido. In order to contrast how with the same materials and information children from different communities and socio-economic realities diametrically opposed. They can obtain different documentary materials.
12 sessions were developed. The first session revolved around photography, framing techniques, portrait and composition. Children were given digital cameras to put into practice the knowledge learned. The next session was dedicated to audio and how this is an important element in the creation of any audiovisual content. Audio and ambient audio recording techniques were taught. The third session dealt with the video, camera movements, paneros, approaches and sequence shot. At the end of this session, a theme was decided with each group that would be developed for the preparation of a small documentary, which would be recorded during the next sessions. Both groups chose animals as their central theme.
The girl from “el Venado” highschool recorded the animals in their community: cows, chickens, goats, turkeys and dogs. They finished the last session with the recording of a turtle release in the tortuguero camp of their community. The children from “El papalote” choose to film the street dogs of Zicatela beach and interviewed those who live with them day by day, such as lifeguards and fishermen.
