Sigilos del rock & roll mexicano – Centro de Estudios de Bachillerato de Rio Grande
“For this workshop, I made use of the practice of Renaissance magic, called “SIGILOS,” which refers to a type of graphic signature, which in ancient times served to represent either the desire of a magician or a spiritual entity (benign or evil). In my work, the use of the technique is applied to the creation of a “seal” that graphically represents those music groups, transcendent within the the spiritual vision of my work (e.g., “Spiritualized”). For the workshop, I wanted the students to make their sigils inspired by their favorite groups, working graphically and directly on paper.” Txema Novelo.

The work of Txema Novelo is a curious blend of mysticism, rock n’ roll, radical politics, and videogames. Through a process of ransacking, perverting, and miscegenating these disparate influences, Novelo has developed a uniquely powerful creole language of sigil-like form and action within the realms of video, installation, performance, and sculpture.
