Community Project

This workshop brought together a group of girls aged 13 to 15 from the community of Aguaje El Zapote, who documented their surroundings using cameras to create both a personal and a collective fanzine.

Reflecting on their environment and traditions, they captured images of their families, sunsets, the lagoon, animals, and food. In each session, we carried out exercises to bring them closer to photography, always paying attention to light and shadow. They searched for elements such as fire, water, earth, and air, imagined an image, described it, and then created it—using their peers to photograph one another and bring their visions to life.

We explored various references to build a photographic imaginary, ranging from family portraits and fashion to classic imagery. Some of the girls recreated their own photos, abstracting elements and playing with light, framing, and composition.

We created a space of our own, focused on making. The dynamic fostered a sense of community: each participant selected their favorite photos, defended their work, and explained why. We concluded the workshop at Casa Wabi with a tour focused on architecture and photography. The girls were given their printed fanzines, wrapped in the *fugumori* style for safekeeping.

The final result was filled with sensitivity, where moments of contemplation and the capture of light became truly special images.

Mexico

Mexico City, 1987

Mexico City, 1993. She studied Communication at Universidad Iberoamericana and holds a diploma in Art History from Casa Lamm, as well as a diploma in Photojournalism and Documentary Projects from UNAM.
Her medium is photography, and her main interest lies in rituals, ranging from the intimate to the public. Her primary focus is weddings, although her work also spans from constructions (building sites) to burn-injured children. She explores the concreteness of the image, in the fleeting passing moment.
Her style combines elements of documentary and portraiture, seeking to express, in her own language, the interplay between the simplicity of light, emotions, and forms.
