Community Project

The project began with a workshop on making giant cardboard puppets, interspersed with sessions on theatrical improvisation, vocalization, writing, and drawing. Various scenes and a storyboard were created collaboratively. As a final result, a video was filmed featuring all the participants—students from COBAO 25 in Río Grande. The collective also gave two theatrical performances in Río Grande and Puerto Escondido.

    Poncilí Creación is a Puerto Rican family that focuses on creating foam sculptures that come to life. These sculptures, designed to be manipulated by the human body or parts of it—some the size of a coin, others the size of a car—are tools for subverting reality and other activities. Without a final goal in sight, they travel the world aimlessly, delivering unauthorized speeches that defend and celebrate the freedom of existence in the form of decentralized puppet shows and some slightly more complex inventions.

    Their massive tours (performing in basements, museums, cars, forests, schools, and anywhere else that will have them) have taken them to more than 23 countries. They have also presented their work at Momaps1, Hauser and Wirth, the Aspen Art Museum, the Center for Puppet Arts, MAPR, the Bienal du Art off Norm, NADA, Material, and ICALA.
