“Daniel Toca conceives literary essay as an artist, not as a writer. The border between his essays and his plastic work has been gradually eroded to understand the literary essay as a plane of consistency, as a model, as a spatial order – sometimes geometric, sometimes purely poetic –, as an ancient writing, a pure writing that includes mazes, research about parallelism, the simultaneity that happens between literature, philosophy, theology… His essay-models find echoes in musical structures that are revealed in writing and how they refer to an idea of time that Daniel Toca spins into a weave in which he discusses the dimensions or stories of time. A musical concept or a fiction entail a philosophical position, this position is a precise space that overflows text, causing it to become a sculptural – architectural – material, that observes, even on a secret sheet music, a rhythm, a personal infinite.”
