Celina Portella travels between the universe of plastic arts and dance, generating dialogues between architecture, cinema, performance and lately sculpture. Frequently using her own body as an object of experimentation, she characterizes her research in the fields of the representation of the body and her relationship with space. The artist herself combines almost artisanal practices in videos and photographs that challenge the characteristics of each medium and the perception by the observer.
She has been nominated for the 2016 ICCO / SP-Arte awards; EFG Bank & Art-Nexus, in SP-Arte 2015 and Pipa award 2013 and 2017. She was awarded at the SALÓN ACME 8 , Mexico in 2020; in the XX International Biennial of Visual Arts of Santa Cruz, in Bolivia, in 2016, and in the II Contest of Videoart da Fundaj, in Recife, 2008.
She received the SEC + Faperj Criação Stimulus Program Grant, in 2016; for the I Programa de Fomento à Cultura Carioca, 2013 and the grant Apoio a Criação da SEC / RJ, 2012. She participated in the artistic residencies Bag Factory Artists Studios in Johannesburg, Center Récollets in Paris, LABMIS in São Paulo, among others.
From participations in group shows, we can highlight: Histórias da Dança no MASP, São Paulo, 2020; Frestas Trienal de Artes, at Sesc Sorocaba, 2017; III Mostra do Programa de Exposições Centro Cultural São Paulo, 2012 and Nova arte nova, at the CCBB-RJ and SP, 2009. As a dancer and co-creator, she worked with the choreographers Lia Rodrigues and João Saldanha.
Celina was born in Rio de Janeiro and currently lives in São Paulo. She studied graphic design at the Pontificia Universidade Católica de Rio de Janeiro and graduated in visual arts at the Université Paris VIII.
