We are pleased to announce that Mexican director Nuria Ibañez Castañeda has been awarded the ESCINE – Casa Wabi Residency Prize 2025 for her feature film El guardián, presented at the 23rd edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).
Granted for the third time, this award stems from the collaboration between Fundación Casa Wabi and ESCINE, with the aim of strengthening the ties between cinema and contemporary visual arts.
Thanks to this recognition, Nuria will undertake an artistic residency at Casa Wabi (Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca), where she will develop a new project in dialogue with resident artists and local communities.

Her work is distinguished by a contemplative gaze that explores everyday life and emotions through quiet observation, creating deeply empathetic portraits of her subjects. In El guardián, she brings this sensitivity into fiction, reaffirming her interest in the boundaries between reality and cinematic storytelling.
