lives and works in Mexico City

Andrew Roberts (Tijuana, 1995) lives and works in Mexico City. His work is based on a historical review of the parallel development of war technology and the entertainment industry, analyzing the role of images as operational weapons within colonial, racial and extractivist mechanisms, and their poetic, political and aesthetic ramifications in the production of death and capital. His work employs elements of video games and popular film genres, taking the form of multimedia narrative and speculative fiction materialized in space through digital animations and immersive installations in the company of objects, actions and writing.

He has exhibited individually at House of Chappaz, Valencia and Barcelona (2022); Best Practice, San Diego (2022); Pequod Co., Mexico City (2020); and CECUT, Tijuana (2017). His work has been shown collectively at the Whitney Biennial 2022: Quiet As It’s Kept, New York (2022); the 7th Athens Biennial: Eclipse, Athens (2021); Museo Jumex, Mexico City (2021); Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (2018); Centro Cultural Universitario Tlatelolco, Mexico City (2018); and San Diego Art Institute (2017). He has exhibited collaboratively at Delaplane, San Francisco (2021); and Salón Silicón, Mexico City (2021). Roberts is an active member of Delave, a curatorial and artistic duo.

His recognitions include two Acquisition Awards at the National Meeting of Young Art (Aguascalientes), in its editions XLI (2021) and XXXIX (2019); the Acquisition Award at the III National Landscape Biennial, Sonora (2019); and First Place in the VII International Biennial of University Art, Toluca (2018). He has been a beneficiary of FONCA in the Alternative Media category of the Young Creators program on two occasions (2019-2020 and 2022-2023); and PECDA Baja California (2016-2017).
