James Casebere is a visual artist whose early work established him at the forefront of artists working with constructed photography. He received his BFA from the Mpls College of Art and Design, and his MFA from Cal Arts.

For almost 50 years Casebere has devised both simple and complex table top models, (often architectural), and photographed them in his studio. From 1986, through 1992 Casebere also made large-scale sculpture. Since receiving the Rome Prize in 2019, he has also made large-scale outdoor sculpture from CLT or mahogany and indoor sculpture in burnt bamboo.

Casebere is the recipient of three NEA fellowships, three NYFA fellowships, and a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship. He is a Pollack Krasner Foundation Grant recipient (2026), a MacDowell Fellow (2026), and was elected a National Academician of the National Academy of Design (2026).

His work has been collected by the Whitney, the Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Walker Art Center, LAMOCA, the LA County Museum, the Victoria and Albert and Tate Museums in London, among many others.
